Respiratory tract infections are any infections of the sinuses, throat, airways or lungs. They are usually caused by viruses and bacteria. There are two types of Respiratory Tract Infections ( RTIs)  i.e. Upper RTIs and Lower RTIs.

Pneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection and is caused by an inflammation of the tissue in the lungs.

According to UNICEF, Pneumonia remains the leading infectious cause of death among children under five. In 2016, Pneumonia accounted for approximately 16 per cent of the 5.6 million under-five deaths, killing around 900,000 children.
